A Likely Nightmare

A likely nightmare
waking alone
your silhouette
on the horizon

did you depart
in these echoes
of water and stone
effluent

or did your wind
scatter you away
bear you aloft
ephemeral

look at your distance
see your vanishing
you become a fading shadow
at sun rising

you linger
tracks still following
a straight line
in the long sand.

Turn

An’ I must go
For you have left
An empty hole
Where once
my soul was still

And I alone
Am all I see
Singly, simply
nothing but
a hand among the reeds

desolate
as the sun shines through
reflecting upon
the waters
and sparkling

with cold light
and little stars
of motes traveling
to and fro
alone never touching

turn your eyes
turn them here
to this, my sentinel
standing sober
alone on the walls

watching the sea
empty
soulless without you
praying
that you will turn

Truth

was I given
permission to write
nothing
but the truth

did I ask you
to write about truth
about me
and of you

leave me alone
I cannot stop now
leave me
so I may

sail slowly away

you and I
we’re in my eyes
so forget your thoughts
of me telling lies

I cannot
weave untruth’s rot
behind my own eyes
or in my unheard cries

to sail away
and live in my truths
without
your blindness

do I cut you
to tell the truth
shatter
our friendship

let me go free
if I stop, I’ll die

believe
so I may
escape this cold grey

for I see
the truth in thee
you cannot accept
that my eyes are set free

my mind leapt
to find that cleft
behind your dark eyes
but I found only lies
