Shed No Tears

May 27, 2005

The waters are washing away
My footprints in the sand.
I was no more than a ghost before

And I’m even less now.

Around me, embers are grasping.
They reach for the flames
That spark and leave more embers

For the golden to clean up.

And I am watching and counting
The ashes on the sand
I shed no tears before

And I’ll shed none now

But it shall never be said
That my soul will never weep
And that I’ll never lament

That she’ll never be mine.
