I Found A Fire

May 27, 2005

sorrows drown the endless cries

of joy that I should have

in the beauty of the endless skies

and the tender touch of your eyes

they have taken me away

the spirits of the fire

though I see your image every day

even I had seen I could not stay

I thought I’d found a fire in you

but I could not see a flame

and a liar sang a song to me

that hung my head in shame

a man was telling me his story

but I can’t recall his name

I could not even say I was sorry

for I could see no flame

where was my best friend talking to me

so long before right now

and where is the strength he saw in me

he asked where, and I only asked how

I thought I’d found a fire in you

but I could not see its flame

and a liar sang a song to me

that hung my head in shame

I’d seen a tiny fire in us

but now I see the fool

my love: the flame, my words: the wind

and my dreams had been the fuel

I thought I’d found a fire in you

but I could not see the flame

and a liar sang a song to me

that hung my head in shame.
