Greytear Victory

February 16, 2005

the captain returned this day

with half the swords remaining

faces were tearstained and grey

and my own was not coming

were we meant for the bright sword

and blood and lightning and fire

I had taught this one my world

of all this… all he’d desired

but he found the voice for song

and with it he found the truth

another to which we belong

seen by none in our long youth

our voice greater than bards’

round camp pits and at war

should the sword become shards

that we might live by stars

his chosen shall not find

this one among the chiefs

for his was the last line

of the song of victory

she heard not his last time.
